That's right. Rolls Royce, a marque second only to Hummer for being synonymous with conspicuous consumption, wants to go green. Company CEO Tom Purves says he'd like to build an electric version of the Phantom using pretty much the same technology BMW, which owns Rolls, is putting into the Mini EV it recently rolled out.

Electric car usage is getting big in Australia now with plan to outfit Melbourne with power charging points for electric vehicles.

Plan to fit out Melbourne with electric car charging points

VICTORIANS will be able to drive an electric car and recharge it at plug-in points at home, the office or shopping centres within four years.

The mass use of electric cars moved a giant step closer to reality today, with power company AGL and finance group Macquarie Capital signing an agreement with international group Better Place to provide infrastructure to support the environmentally-friendly vehicles.
